Poultry rearing in kenya has become a great activity. People are now embracing the new poultry farming system which involves rearing large numbers of birds for both meat and eggs.
The most reared type is the Layers. They are reared for the production of eggs. When layers are managed well they lay daily upto a 100%. This means , under good management, if a farmer has 100 birds, then he is capable of getting 100 eggs per day.
Layers birds, lays for a period of about 18 months after which they are sold for meat. After 18 months the birds are sold and new ones introduced. This is because at this age birds have exhausted on laying and nolo lay eggs 100%.
